‘when the outcome drives the process we will only ever go to where we’ve been’
Bruce Mau
I brought a fascination with charcoal and ink with me when I finished my studies at art school. Rich, tactile, moody blacks and soft graduations of tone – what’s not to love? I specialised in mezzotint, the most charcoal-like of printmaking techniques.
Over the following years, I have added tools and skills to my kit. I have moved from the inks and solvents of printmaking to more ecologically friendly eucalyptus dyes and rust printing. I added handstitching and knitting to my drawing practice. Throughout, I have maintained a love affair with paper – and with pushing its limitations.
My subject is the natural world, particularly the landscape of the south coast of NSW – Yuin country. The beaches, the bush, the rivers. Rocks and trees, insects and lichens. These works are my memories of my time spent there.
